With a Sunday night showdown against the Giants and a trip cross-state to Heinz Field to face the Steelers looming on the Eagles schedule in the next two weeks, this Sunday's battle of the birds in the Arizona desert is almost a must win.
After two thrilling one-point victories over Cleveland and Baltimore, the Eagles have an excellent shot at starting the season at 3-0 for the first time in a decade. However, they will never get there if they continue turn the ball over at an alarming rate of 4.5 times a game while committing an average of 14 penalties a game as well. I am content to take those first two wins and run, but the real Eagles we all know and love need to show up over the next three weeks in order to avoid things going south in a hurry.
That all starts this Sunday with much more consistent performance from Michael Vick, who finally decides to show up for all four quarters and not just the last two minutes of the game. The offensive linemen will also start keeping their hands to themselves and the defensive backs will stop draping themselves all over the opposition's wide receivers more than five yards down the field.
My bold prediction for this week is that it all finally comes together for the Eagles as they show the Cardinals as well as the rest of the league that they are a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball with a victory that was never in doubt.
