News & Notes from the NFL – March 26

This past week was relatively quiet in the NFL with the only activity being the league meetings in New Orleans. The labor situation remains on hold until an April 6 hearing which was set to determine the legality of the owners decision to lock-out the players after the NFLPA decided to decertify the union.

The path to April 28th draft continues to be the only activity in the NFL that has not been impacted by the labor situation. All the experts continue to fine-tune their mock draft boards as the top prospects jockey for position with Pro Day and private team workouts.

Mel Kiper Jr, often thought of as the guru of the NFL draft, was on ESPN this week to discuss the Eagles needs and possible first round pick this year. He has the Birds taking OT Gabe Carimi from Wisconsin with the 23rd overall selection in this year's draft.

We all know from past history that Andy Reid loves big road graders and Carimi certainly fits the bill at 6-foot-7 and 317 pounds. He would plug a major hole on the right side of the offensive line that would not only help Philadelphia's running game, but protect Michael Vick's blindside as he rolls out to his left.

Stayed tuned for more draft updates over the coming weeks, but for now here is a link to this week's NFL news and notes as originally posted on ATS Sportsline.
